Profile

I am a freelance web designer and developer based in South West London.

I have a background in real life business, management and marketing as well as web experience. This enables me to gain a greater understanding of web projects and make them more applicable and relevant to the business.

Business Experience

Prior to moving into web development, I worked in the telecommunications sector. I ran the broadband product for uSwitch, one of the UK's most recognisable and successful internet businesses, as the Broadband Product Manager until April 2006. This role was as varied as they come and included managing the commercial relationship with the UK's leading broadband providers, negotiating commercial contracts, maximising the revenue from uSwitch.com and acting as a media spokesperson for the company.

Before uSwitch, I was employed as an Operations Manager for Onetel (then part of Centrica). This role involved integrating 3rd Party, including online, sales channels into the Onetel sales model and managing the operational process of the external sales channels

Coding Languages

For front end development, I write XHTML and CSS code that complies with the latest standards. I create CSS based layouts, which reduces browser loading time and enables more efficient style changes to your site.

For server side development, I write PHP (scripting) and MySQL (database) code. PHP is an open source programming and scripting language and the world's most popular language for the web. It has many advantages over its alternatives, including its stability and lower hosting costs.

Drupal Framework

Where applicable, Drupal is my preferred content management platform due its power and flexibility. I am an active member of the Drupal community.

Custom Built Systems

When Drupal is not relevant to a project, I will build a custom made content management and/or e-commerce system. It will be built specifically for the requirements of the project.

SEO, Customer Experience and Usability

I have a strong understanding of search engine optimisation and the customer experience. I have experience in balancing the often conflicting requirements of both.
