Short field notes on building automated systems, running a consulting business and AI.

AI Assisted, Not AI Generated

Many people reject content generated by AI, believing it should be created and read by humans. I agree with this perspective 100%. Content read by humans should be written by humans.

But this doesn’t mean AI can’t assist in the process. Humans can generate ideas, and write content from those ideas, and use AI as a tool in the middle as an assistant.

For instance, when I work on projects with my clients, I make daily notes in a tool called Reflect. I jot down the projects as I complete them, including rough ideas on how I built them, any problems I encountered, obstacles I solved, insights gained, questions that arose, and other ideas. I do this as a matter of habit and I work through my day.

Once a week, I run an AI command on the last seven days' worth of notes. I ask the AI model to extract insights and ideas from that week and generate a few suggestions for LinkedIn based on my thoughts. While AI is a tool to assist, the content originates from me. I then write up these ideas in my words, ensuring that the content is authentically mine, with AI serving as a helpful tool in the process.

In this way, AI is assisting me, and helping me be more productive. But the ideas are mine, and the writing is me. It remains human to human communication, with AI being just a tool in the process. In the same way that my writing app and publishing system are simply tools.
